SCRUM Roles
A mix and match activity on the SCRUM roles to develop the understanding of this topic
Description
Participants match specific responsibilities written on the cards with the appropriate SCRUM role. This way, they gain more clarity and a deeper understanding of the SCRUM roles. Also, they become more competent in recognizing or establishing who has to do what. Use this activity as a recap exercise or to break the ice on the matter. You can then debrief on their sometimes biased perception.
Flow
Introduction
- Introduce the activity to the participants.
- Split them into teams.
- Each team will name a team coordinator. They will facilitate the discussion in the breakout room. In the end, they will present the outcome to the other teams. The team coordinators can rely on the ideas written within the predefined template.
- Join each team and provide the activity link
Work
- Participants work with a set of cards on which they find different responsibilities. On the board, they can see the SCRUM roles.
- Their task is to place each card under the appropriate SCRUM role. They address the different opinions that arise with proper arguments. In the end, the matching should reflect as precise as possible the essence of the SCRUM roles.
- The teams can either:
- engage in an open debate in the search for the right matching or,
- each team can get the key to the activity.
Debrief (suggested)
- The team coordinator from each team will present the outcome to the other teams.
- The facilitator may ask the following questions:
- How many accurate matches did you make? How satisfied are you with the result?
- What challenges did arise during the activity? How did you overcome them?
- Did you discover anything surprising during this exercise?
- What conclusions can you draw from this activity?
