The change

The Change

Collecting ideas to discover what lies behind one’s behaviour in face of change

Description

Participants discover the factors that influence them to behave in a certain way in response to a changing work environment. They think of both positive and negative factors. That is – factors that determine them to favour change or to avoid/postpone any action in this regard. This way, they become more able to understand which levers they could use. The aim here is to overcome the resistance and start acting in a proactive way in times of change.

Flow

Introduction

  • Introduce the activity to the participants.
  • Split them into teams.
  • Encourage the teams to nominate a team coordinator. They will facilitate the discussion in the breakout room. In the end, they will present the outcome to the other teams. The team coordinators can rely on the ideas written within the predefined template.
  • Join each team and provide the activity link

Work

  • Participants brainstorm and discuss about dealing with constant changes at work. They make a list of pros and cons. They write each idea on a sticky note, on the virtual flipchart sheet prepared beforehand.
  • Recommend them to write down one idea/sticky note.
  • Mention that there are no good or bad ideas here, all ideas are valuable.

Debrief (suggested)

  • The team coordinator from each team will present the outcome of this contrast activity.
  • The facilitator may ask the following questions:
    • What do the common points between the lists mean to you?
    • Which are the pros that have the biggest impact on you?
    • Are the pros that you’ve just discovered enough to drive you to act proactively in times of change or do you need additional resources? Which ones?
