My Role as Project Manager

My Role as Project Manager

Discover and clarify your role as Project Manager. Use these three perspectives: client, sponsor and team

Description

This activity is a proper setup for the participants to discover the needs and expectations they should meet as Project Managers. Participants think about their clients, sponsors and team members’ expectations. This way, they get one step closer to defining the best approach to communicating and sparking engagement about their project.

Flow

Introduction

  • Introduce the activity to the participants and split them into teams.
  • Each team will name a team coordinator to facilitate the discussion in the breakout room. In the end, they will present the outcome to the other teams. The team coordinators can rely on the ideas written within the predefined template.
  • Provide the activity link to each team.

Work

  • Participants brainstorm and write down on sticky notes their ideas. They relate to the needs and expectations of people involved in the project: client, sponsor, and team.
  • They can cluster the ideas written on the notes even further since they can freely move the sticky notes on the board.

Debrief (suggested)

  • The team coordinator from each team will present the outcome to the other teams.
  • The facilitator may ask the following questions:
    • What did you discover during this activity?
    • Do these 3 types of interlocutors have any common expectations or needs? What does this mean to you?
