Daily Stand-up Meeting Agile SCRUM

Daily Stand-up Meeting

A great way to practice daily SCRUM/Stand-up meeting to get alignment inside the agile team

Description

Participants simulate a daily SCRUM meeting of 15 minutes. This way they learn how to keep track and communicate their SCRUM team’s progress. This activity helps them understand how to do it in a non-evaluative manner. Also, they discover that challenges may only seem outside their control area. Teammates step in and provide valuable input on the spot. Thus, they can manage their energy in a more effective way.

Flow

Introduction

  • Introduce the activity to the participants.
  • Split them into teams.
  • Encourage the teams to nominate a SCRUM Master. They will help with facilitating this activity, as per the SCRUM framework.
  • Join each team and provide the activity link.

Work

  • Participants take turns to provide answers to the three questions written on the board. They focus on providing complete yet concise answers to:
    • What did I do yesterday?
    • What will I do today?
    • What are the impediments?
  • In case of an impasse about a certain task, they can ask for help.
  • They can write down on sticky notes the main ideas, so they can track down their progress.

Debrief (suggested)

  • The facilitator may ask the following questions:
    • How do you feel after sharing this information?
    • How difficult was it for you as a team to stick to those three questions and not digress to other topics/details?
    • How was it for you – the SCRUM Master from each team – to facilitate the meeting?
    • How useful do you find this format of standup meetings? How exactly do you think it will help you and your team?
