Client role Challenges
Agile Product Owner
Discover the challenges of being a client. Understand where the value provided by the Product Owner should stand
Description
Participants get the opportunity to put themselves in the client’s shoes. They can think of their customers’ experiences or they can decompose their previous experiences as clients. The experiences should relate to some valuable acquisitions. The aim here is to discover and better understand the true needs, expectations, preferences and challenges of clients. These can be almost opposite to what a Product Owner might think is valuable for the clients. This is the first step in accommodating different perspectives. Only then, a Product Owner will be able to provide bullseye solutions to their clients.
Flow
Introduction
- Introduce the activity to the participants.
- Split them into teams.
- Encourage the teams to nominate a team coordinator. They will facilitate the discussion in the breakout room. In the end, they will present the outcome to the other teams. The team coordinators can rely on the ideas written within the predefined template.
- Join each team and provide the activity link.
Work
- Participants brainstorm and write down on sticky notes their ideas. These are referring to what the clients like and then the challenges they face.
- A quick tip here: ask the participants to write down one idea/sticky note.
- Then they discuss and refine/cluster even more the initial information. This is helpful when presenting the outcome to the other teams.
Debrief (suggested)
- The team coordinator from each team will present the outcome to the other teams.
- The facilitator may ask the following questions:
- What was challenging/rewarding in taking the client’s perspective?
- Are there any common points between the lists? What does this mean to you?
- Can some of these challenges be opportunities in disguise?
- Was there anything that surprised you in any way?
